Forensic accounting
Investigations are scoped against what is known, billed by the hour against a cap, and built on documents nobody should see but the parties. ROJI runs that process — intake with the adverse parties named, a conflict check, a retainer in trust, time against a cap, encrypted document requests — for a client or the agent acting for them.
For firms
Financial investigations, fraud examinations, asset tracing, litigation support, damages and dispute analysis, expert reports — published as quote-priced listings on your storefront. Forensic work is not itself a licensed act, so this category is not gated on a licence; a CFE or CFF is recognised by name and shown on your storefront as a badge with how it was verified. Where an engagement amounts to private investigation in a state that licenses it, that is a separate credential and a separate category.
What the process gives you:
- Intake names the parties. Client intake carries owners, affiliates and — for disputes — the adverse parties, so your conflict check has what it needs before you spend an hour. The quote holds until you clear it.
- A retainer, in trust, evergreen. A retainer on acceptance into your client trust account, topped back up when it falls below the floor you set, drawn down as you bill.
- Time against a cap. Bill dated entries at your rates during the work. A bill that would take the engagement past the cap in the quote is refused; more needs a new quote the client accepts.
- Documents where you asked for them. Bank statements, ledgers, exports, mail archives as ZIP — requested as a list, uploaded against each item, encrypted at rest with a key per file, and hashed so what you received is what the record says you received.
- A letter a person signs. The client's agent can supply intake, answer scoping questions and pay charges; it cannot accept your engagement letter.
A schedule, as a firm might write it:
- Retainer, into trust, evergreen — $25,000 on acceptance · topped up to $25,000 when below $10,000
- Time — $425/h partner, $250/h senior · billed as entries · capped at $90,000
- Expenses — passed through at cost · no platform percentage
- Report delivered — $15,000 · on delivery
For the client — and the agent they sent
Counsel's intake agent, or a company's finance agent, can engage a firm from its storefront:
request_quote(listing_id="svc_…",
request={ "matter": "intercompany transfers FY2024–25", "entities": ["Acme Holdings", "Acme Ops", "Acme RE"] },
client_intake={ "legalName": "Acme Holdings LLC", "entityType": "llc", "jurisdiction": "US-TX",
"affiliates": ["Acme Ops LLC", "Acme RE LP", "adverse: Former CFO"],
"reportUsers": "outside counsel" })
→ quo_… conflictCheck=pending
get_quote(quote_id="quo_…") → state=quoted · requiresHumanSignature=true
▸ route to counsel: they sign in the console
get_order_charges(order_id="ord_…") → retainer $25,000 due → pay_order_charge(rail="ach")
list_document_requests(order_id="ord_…") → "Bank statements, all accounts, 24 months" …
Every charge records who authorised it and under which spend policy; every document records who sent it and when the firm accepted it. The record is the one both sides, and later a court, read.
Why forensic firms run engagements here
Conflicts before cost
Intake with affiliates and adverse parties arrives with the request; the quote cannot be accepted until your check is recorded.
Time that cannot overrun quietly
Hours and expenses bill against the cap the client agreed to. The platform refuses the entry that would exceed it.
Retainers that stay topped up
An evergreen retainer in trust raises its own top-up when it falls below the floor — no chasing.
Evidence handled as evidence
Documents encrypted at rest, hashed on receipt, accepted or returned item by item.
Badges, not gates
CFE and CFF are shown with their verification; they never block a listing, because the work is not licensed.
The agent stops at the letter
It supplies, discusses and pays; a person engages the firm.
